Day 3 of the Solar Car Challenge
Fort Worth, Texas

Early this morning, the solar cars were aligned to catch the first rays of sunshine. Teams checked their cars to ensure their cars would drive in optimal conditions. The race started today at 9:00am with all the cars lined in position.

With the skies partly cloudy, teams had to bring new battery management strategies. As teams found their cars under large cumulus clouds, they had to decide whether to wait it out slowly, or speed up to get under the sun's rays.

As the heat continued to rise, our hydration engineers had their work cut out for them. They continued their hard work to ensure all teams continued staying hydrated in the 100+ degree heat.

After the racing periods ended, the race provided the teams with a Mexican dinner from Mexican Inn. After dinner, teams left their cars out to soak up the remaining sun and to prepare for the final day. Racing will continue tomorrow morning at 9:00am.

Day 2 of the Solar Car Challenge
Fort Worth, Texas

Today at the speedway, we saw the first full day of solar racing. After a half day of racing yesterday, we now saw teams using strategies to keep themselves in the race.

In the morning the sky was partly cloudy, but by noon the sun was shining down in the track. With this addition, it made today the hottest day yet. Teams stayed hydrated thanks to our hydration experts and stayed cool thanks to the ice cream that was passed out to the teams.

After the end of the racing day teams headed over to Roanoke to partake in the parade! The parade drew a large crowd and the solar cars and teams got some great exposure. Thanks to the city of Roanoke, all teams got to eat in the downtown strip! This was extremely exciting and all the teams had a wonderful experience.

Racing will continue tomorrow morning at 9:00.

Day 1 of the Solar Car Challenge
Fort Worth, Texas

After a whole year of hard work and preparation, the teams finished Scrutineering and participated in the Solar Car Challenge. We had extensive media coverage documenting the exciting Opening Ceremonies.

The morning started off partly cloudy, but the skies eventually cleared making it the perfect day for solar car racing!

All the teams showed amazing progress today, and finished the day with a delicious barbeque dinner.

Everyone involved with the Challenge made it through a long day under the sun, and all the participants stayed hydrated, thanks to our great medical crew, staff, and team volunteers.

The race will continue at the Texas Motor Speedway tomorrow morning, and the solar cars will end their day at a parade in downtown Roanoke starting at 7pm. We can’t wait to see you all there!

Scrutineering Day, Solar Car Challenge
Fort Worth, Texas

Today was the start of Scrutineering for the 16th Annual Solar Car Challenge! Scrutineering is the process whereby solar cars are evaluated to see if their adhere to the stringent Race Rules & Regulations. Teams passing Scrutineering are admitted to the Race which begins on Monday, July 18th at the world-famous Texas Motor Speedway.

So many teams made amazing progress. Nine out of the sixteen teams finished the first five Scrutineering Stations today, and are ready to complete the Station Six (Endurance) on Monday. The other teams hope to complete their qualifying process so that they too can start the race on Monday.

Teams are currently getting ready for the Opening Banquet, and look forward to honoring the sponsors that made this event possible. Special recognition will be given to the Texas Motor Speedway for their years of support for the Solar Education Program. This is the sixth time that the Speedway has welcomed solar car racers.
