Driver's License -- Clarification (January 28, 2002)
Question
What does the race consider as a valid driver's license?
Answer
A "valid drivers license" means that the student is licensed to drive their registered solar vehicle under the laws of their state of residence, and that the student can drive that vehicle without adult supervision during race hours. This means that if the vehicle is registered as a car in their state of residence, then the student must have a "car license". Similarly, if the vehicle is registered as a motorcycle in their state of residence, then the student must have a "motorcycle license".
If the vehicle is not registered in the student's state of residence, the vehicle will be registered under the Texas Experimental Vehicle Law and assigned a Texas VIN number. In this case, a "valid drivers license" means that the student must have a car driver's license issued from their state of residence, or that the student complete the Texas Vehicle Licensing process. Registration of vehicles under the Texas Experimental Vehicle Law is recognized in all states for the duration of the 30-day license.

10.6 Driver Restrictions
Solar car team drivers must have a valid driver's license. All drivers will be specifically identified at registration. Only registered drivers will be allowed to drive during the event. On each day of the race, solar car drivers must report the name (and function) of any drug that they are using. The report should be made during the drivers' meeting to the Assistant Race Director.
