Driver's Licenses -- Note (May 14, 2008)
There have been several teams inquiring as to whether they may use drivers who are not yet licensed or who only have permits. After careful consideration by the race staff, we have decided that we will not be granting waivers to rule 10.6 for the closed track event. All solar car drivers must have a valid driver's license. Permits will not be considered a valid license.
With 18 teams registered for this year's event, the track will be very crowded. It is important to the race staff that each driver has met the requirements to operate a motor vehicle alone in their state of residence in addition to demonstrating an aptitude for handling a solar car during scrutineering. A driver's license shows that a driver has the requisite experience driving in real-life conditions, including defensive driving skills. The race staff is also willing to help teams that do not have enough drivers get in contact with other teams that would be willing to share drivers in the spirit of cooperation.

10.6 Driver Restrictions
Solar car team drivers must have a valid driver's license. All drivers will be specifically identified at registration. Only registered drivers will be allowed to drive during the event. On each day of the event, solar car drivers must report the name (and function) of any drug that they are using. The report should be made during the drivers' meeting to the Assistant Event Director.
