WINSTON SOLAR TEAM CELEBRATES 15 YEARS

The Winston Solar Car Team is one of the leading high school solar car education programs in the United States. Founded in 1990, the team has built and raced eight solar cars. The team participated in three Australian World Solar Challenges, and is the first U.S. High School to ever complete the race. The team has earned First Place Classic Division in both the 2002 and 2004 Dell-Winston Solar Car Challenges.

In 1993, the Winston Solar Team established the Winston Solar Education Program designed to help motivate students in science and engineering. Through this program, more than 1000 schools in twenty countries have luanched solar education programs. The end product of the solar education program is the Challenge, an event that enables students to showcase their vehicles.

In 2003, the Hunt Oil Company became the primary sponsor of the Winston Team. The team's next goal: build a solar car for the 2006 Dell-Winston School Solar Car Challenge at the Texas Motor Speedway.
